Talisman Energy Inc. is an independent upstream oil and gas company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Talisman has operations in Canada and its subsidiaries operate in the UK, Norway, Southeast Asia, North Africa , South America and the United States.

Challenge

Talisman is currently in a period of global expansion and rapid growth which requires the company to identify ways in which technology can be used to capture and share knowledge, collaborate more effectively, and assist business units in improving visibility into major international projects. Talisman required a global portal solution that would allow the company to collaborate across many geographic locations.

Solution

Ideaca designed and delivered a multinational Project Delivery System portal for Talisman, leveraging Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007. The portal supports Talisman’s global Project Management Discipline and provides access to best practices, acts as a central repository for project-related knowledge, and allows the effective use of project sites and project-specific meeting workspaces. Additional features include: Discussion boards for a centralized forum, a tools and resources section, links to internal business applications and external resources, search capabilities, and a moderated interface with workflow to capture lessons learned.

The multinational nature of the Project Delivery System portal established a universal project management site template that was deployed across international sites. The solution was architected where the primary site resides in Canada and regional project sites are hosted in Malaysia, Norway and the United Kingdom. Talisman has multiple international subsidiaries and the Project Delivery System marks one of the first truly international collaborative environments for the company.
