ChallengeJonas Software has been a leading provider of Enterprise Management Software solutions for over 20 years. Jonas saw an excellent opportunity to provide a cloud-based solution for a segment of the market that they were unable to properly service with their existing Enterprise ERP product. This market included customers in the SMB space that may not have their own internal IT departments, wanted to keep IT costs down and did not require the extensive features and configurability of the Enterprise product. Jonas wanted to develop a new solution that could scale to meet new market needs.
Jonas worked with Ideaca to develop a web-based solution that was multi-tenant and could be delivered as a SaaS subscription-based offering with flexible user configuration options. Ideaca and Jonas decided on a phased approach to this project:
In phase 1, Ideaca initially engaged with senior Jonas executives to assess Cloud offerings on the market and examine feasibility for a fully SaaS subscription-based ERP. This helped Jonas understand the Cloud marketplace, technology implications, as well as implications to their operations and people. Furthermore, Ideaca performed a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis of the various options. In phase 2, Ideaca successfully piloted the Rich Internet Application (RIA) based Enterprise Management Application on Microsoft Windows Azure. In addition, a product blueprint, detailed build methodology, and release plan were defined. Currently in progress, phase 3 includes the build and deployment of the full custom ERP application to Windows Azure and bringing the application to market. Team Foundation Server is used to manage all aspects of the project lifecycle including backlog and progress tracking. Both manual and automated tests are developed and executed by a QA team to ensure high quality product deliverables. Application modules include core Finance, Inventory Management, Job Costing, Time and Expense Management, Project Management, robust Document Management and a full-feature reporting suite.
